6 Tasty Weight-loss Snacks

January 4, 2021

Start the year off right by trying out these 6 tasty Weight-loss Snacks.

Just because you are watching your waistline doesn’t mean you have to eat rabbit food, these sacks will help you stay on track with your wellness resolutions and weight loss goals.

Mix up your normal snack options with something a little more interesting than just carrots and celery sticks.

1. Avocado with Salsa

Avocado is not just for spreading on toast. Research suggests that the monosaturated fats in a smashed avo brunch can help you keep fuller for longer, not to mention the fibre, potassium and vitamin B you score by tucking in.

Try: Cutting an avocado in half, remove the stone and fill the gap with freshly made salsa or mash up and make into DIY guacamole by adding 1 teaspoon of minced garlic, a squeeze of lemon juice and fresh coriander.

2. Roasted chickpeas

Roasted chickpeas deliver all the crunch of potato chips but without the sodium and provide more protein and fibre than any salt and vinegar crinkle cut chips!

Try: Soaking 2 cups of chickpeas overnight then pat dry, drizzle with olive oil then roast at 180ºC for 30 to 60 minutes and you’ve got a batch to last you a few days. For an instant flavour hit spice them up with turmeric, chilli, cayenne pepper or herbs.

3. 70% Dark Chocolate

We haven’t forgotten the chocoholics! For maximum benefit choose a chocolate bar with at least 70% cocoa – the intense flavour helps with satiety.

Perfect with a cuppa at the end of a busy day, this is the luxury snack you can actually feel good about eating – provided you don’t devour the entire block.

Try: Melting 3 oz of dark chocolate in a microwave oven then stir in 1 teaspoon of Avocado oil. Dip 12 strawberries into the chocolate and then place them on a tray lined with wax paper. Chill the strawberries in the fridge for 30 minutes before eating.

4. Black or Green Olives

Olives are perfect to munch on when you aren’t starving, but need a little something to tide you over until dinnertime.

Olives are deeply flavourful, full of belly-flattening MUFAs and five of them will only set you back about 100 kilojoules.

Try: Stuffing a pitted olive with a small wedge of your favourite cheese and a few chilli slices for an even bigger flavour punch.

5. Unshelled Pistachios

You know the frustration that comes with trying to open one of these – but the fiddly shell is actually part of its snack appeal!

As well as the benefits of protein and healthy fat, a small handful will last longer thanks to the time you will spend shucking.

That will give your body more time to register satisfaction, making it less likely you’ll polish off the entire packet.

6. Cottage cheese with Cinnamon

You might remember it as the bland diet ‘go-to’ food from the 90’s, but we promise this version is super-tasty – not to mention loaded with protein (up to 28g in one cup) and full of bone-building calcium.

Sweeten your next bowl with a serious sprinkling of the blood sugar-stabliser Cinnamon and you’ve got yourself a perfect afternoon hunger crusher. Delicious!

Keep your commitment to your waistline and your new year’s resolution by trying any or all of these 6 Tasty Weight Loss Snacks.
