healthy winter, winter

Follow our 6 tips for a healthy winter and keep the sniffles away.

Tip #1 Wash Your Hands

Most infections are contracted and passed on by touching contaminated common areas, washing your hands on a regular basis will help prevent you catching bugs and also prevent it spreading through your household. Carrying hand sanitiser with you is also a convenient way of keeping your hands clean.

Tip #2 Take Your Vitamins

Even though its chilly outside it is still important to get your daily vitamin D fix. The sun is obviously the best source – two to three hours of exposure per week is all you need. You can also obtain it through foods, such as fatty fish, egg yolks, and supplements. Vitamin C is also important for a strong immune system. Vitamin C can be found in most fruits and vegetables.

Tip #3 Drink Up

As the days get colder and temperatures begin to drop, the air around you tends to become drier and we dress warmer and tend not to drink as much water as normal it is important to keep hydrated throughout the cooler months

Tip#4 Move it

Even through the colder months its important to stay active not only for your physical well-being but for your mental well-being as well. Although it is easier to curl up on the couch with a good book, exercise is on of the best ways to boost our immune system and ward off illnesses. Be sure to warm up before exercise during the cooler months as you are more likely to cause yourself an injury.

Tip #5 Wrap up

It’s tempting to turn up the heater when the rain sets in. High temperatures and low humidity can leave your skin feeling dry and irritated, especially if you are prone to eczema. Instead of cranking up the heater, wrap yourself in a blanket or cuddle a heat pack or hot water bottle. Doing this will keep you warm but it’s better for the environment.

Tip #6 Care for your skin

Winter weather tends to dry out your skin, so keeping it hydrated and moisturised by drinking plenty of water and regularly applying moisturiser will leave your skin both looking and feeling nurtured. If you are going to spend time moisturising your body don’t forget your lips and hands.

These 6 tips will help you have a healthy winter and keep the sniffles away.
