The perfect shave is just 5 steps away…
Tip #1. Preparation is key!
The key to the perfect shave is skin preparation. The best time to shave is during or immediately after a warm shower.
Alternatively, soften whiskers with a warm damp face washer, pressing over the contours of your face for 2 – 5 minutes.
The heat and moisture helps soften the beard and prepares the skin for the shave.
Tip #2. Apply a pre-shave oil.
A pre-shave oil is designed to nourish the skin and help protect it from the razor blade. Using the oil will help soften the whiskers of the beard helping the blade glide smoothly, reducing irritation.
Try working a little oil into your face (and beard) before applying your shaving cream, as this will make your face smoother, the smoother your face, the less likely your razor will drag across your skin.
Tip #3. Apply shaving cream.
Using a shaving brush (instead of your hands) apply some shaving cream helps to create a rich lather and lifts each individual whisker, coating the whiskers and helping to give the smoothest shave possible.
Tip #4. Shave correctly
Shaving against the grain is the main cause of irritations and razor burn.
If you want to go closer, shave sideways — from left to right and back again — before finishing against the grain.
Rinse the razor regularly and use good quality blades, remembering to replace the blade often.
A dull blade is a common cause of razor burn and irritation.
Tip #5. Moisturise
After shaving, rinse your face with cold water to close the pores of the skin.
Pat dry with a clean dry towel and apply a soothing and moisturising aftershave balm.
Steer clear of aftershave containing alcohol, as alcohol is extremely drying to the skin, try using aftershave that has soothing ingredients like Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel, or Tea-tree Essential Oil.
