Smelly Feet Prevention

August 1, 2017

For some, smelly feet can be a real embarrassing problem but odour prevention is easy to fix when you know how.

Don’t worry – you aren’t alone, we have all had to leave our sandshoes out on the step to air after a gym session.

Here are 9 helpful steps you can take to fight foot odour:

Tip 1. Wash

If not kept clean your feet will smell. That stench is the result of the sweat on your feet mixing with the bacteria that crops up when you’ve been wearing your shoes and socks for a while.

Start by giving your feet a good wash – when you wake up and before you go to bed.

Don’t forget to wash between your toes.

Tip 2. Dry

Always dry your feet thoroughly, especially in between your toes.

If you don’t bacteria can breed in between the toes.

Tip 3. Foot Scrub

Use a foot scrub once a week to remove any dry dead skin, this will help any cream or lotions absorb into the skin.

Tip 4. Massage

Massage in a minty lotion for odour protection – anything with Peppermint Essential Oil is an excellent choice.

Tip 5. Deodorise

Apply a deodorising powder or spray made especially for smelly feet.

You can also sprinkle a little baking soda or talc over your feet to soak up any dampness.

Tip 6. Wear insoles

Keep feet fresh and dry by slipping special insoles in your sandshoes to absorb perspiration and change them every 3-6 months (depending on how often you wear the shoes).

Tip 7. Wear socks

Always wear cotton sports socks with sandshoes.

Never wear the same pair of socks two days in a row (unless they have been washed).

To prevent athlete’s foot, remove wet/damp socks immediately after exercising or excessive sweating.

Tip 8. Let them breathe

Try to wear shoes made of leather, nylon or canvas as these materials will allow your feet to breathe, which will help to reduce odours.

Tip 9. Regular Pedicures

Having regular professional Pedicures every 2-3 months will also help with odour prevention.

Our feet aren’t cared for as much compare to other parts of our body.

Healthy feet are vital to your overall health so don’t neglect them!
